Business cards bear business information about an individual or about their company. They are a form of a formal introduction for convenience and also as a memory aid. The linen business card may include certain specific information like the name, company affiliation usually represented by a company logo, contact information such as telephone number, address, email ID and fax number. In certain cases it may also include information like telex, tax code, or even bank account number. Traditionally the cards were simply printed with black ink on a white base, but today they reflect multiple aspects of striking visual design.
These cards are usually used during the sales calls or visits in order to provide potential customers with all the contact details so that they can contact the representative of the business. Cards are usually printed on linen stock measuring exact parameters depending upon the norms, desired effect and printing method. Generally they are printed on stock that is 12 pt thickness. High quality business cards are usually printed on offset printing press. Certain companies also trademark their spot colors.
More spot colors can be added depending up on the requirement. To simulate the raised print effect a technique of thermography is used which is usually less expensive and gives a engraved effect to the printing. This application makes use of a plastic powder to adhere the wet ink. The cards are then baked in heating units where the plastic melts onto the card. Full color cards are usually printed on a sheetfed process making use of the four color printing process. Screens of each color when overlapped with another color may produce various effects. But this process does have a certain downside when speaking of the quality.
A linen business card can also be coated by UV glossy coat. The UV coats can also be applied to certain areas leaving other areas in order to create a printing effect or additional design potential. Business cards can also be printed using a digital copier using toner baked on the surface. These machines are also called as digital presses. These machines can print 80 to 100 cover stocks easily. UV coats are simply used to speed up the manufacturing of the cards as these ink get dry immediately. These coatings are generally highly glossy and they increase the life of the card. So using a UV coating of lamination simply increases the life of a business card and also gives it a glossy look.
When card are designed, usually bleeds are provided to them. a type of extension of printed lines or cutting edges are given to avoid wrong cuttings. This simply assures that your card will cut without any white edges. Simply being a hair off can result in those white lines. With the development of technology few advances have also been made in the development of CD-ROM business cards. It can hold up to 35 to 100 MB of data. They can vary in shape and size. CD-business cards are designed to fit 80 mm tray of any computer drive. They can be accessed in almost any computer. But these are simply not in common use.
